Yesterday, on my way home from Ocean Beach, I almost tripped over this small (25-30) grouping of Western Snowy Plovers. They are a threatened species, and pretty shy when it comes to humans. I was lucky enough to get about 7-8 feet away from them by crawling on my stomach. I wouldn’t necessarily call these portfolio material, but I had an amazing time photographing them, and I’ve never been able to observe them just resting and grooming before.
I shot these with my Pentax K20D and an old 135mm lens intended for my Pentax K1000, so the focal length is shortened. I want a lot more practice with this lens, and these amazing little birds, but this was a great start. Totally made my day.

This is me getting naked in Golden Gate Park. I’ve never felt better about being in this body. Photos by alaruephoto
